CMS to Require Appropriate Use Criteria
Effective January 1, 2017, a provision in legislation directs Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to require Appropriate Use Criteria (AUC) consultation for “advanced diagnostic testing” (Nuclear Medicine/PET, CT & MRI). This means that a referring physician will be required to provide documentation that he/she consulted Appropriate Use Criteria (AUC) when ordering an advanced diagnostic imaging test. The documentation must be present on the claim for reimbursement or the imaging laboratory and/or physician who performs the test will not be reimbursed. Read more about this change from the JACC: Cardiovascular Imaging.
Whether you are just starting up your nuclear laboratory or wanting to increase your patient volume with referrals, NIS is here to help you market your services so that you maximize the value that imaging brings to your organization.
